Auditor-general to probe Labor’s 40-year lottery deal in Victoria

The Victorian auditor-general will probe whether the Allan government’s decision to award a 40-year extension to the state’s lottery licence was good value for taxpayers amid criticism that the $1.15 billion deal was shrouded in secrecy.
The Lottery Corporation revealed in a statement to the securities exchange it had signed a deal to extend its exclusive public lottery licence for 40 years, four times longer than the typical length of the contract, on May 5, the morning of the state budget.
