Billions with their eyes on Edgbaston as arch rivals India and Paksitan face off in Group B

Title-holders India were 46 without loss off 9.5 overs when their opening Champions Trophy Group B match against arch-rivals Pakistan resumed after a 50-minute rain break at Edgbaston on Sunday. No overs had yet been lost in this 50 overs per side one-day international contest. Rohit Sharma was 25 not out, off 34 balls including four fours, and Shikhar Dhawan 20 not out, with one boundary in 25 balls faced, after Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to field. Left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir started the match with a maiden to Sharma, with left-arm spinner Imad Wasim opening the bowling at the other end. It was not until the fifth over that India scored their first boundary, with Sharma hooking an Amir bouncer as he took advantage of the fact that the fine leg fielder was inside the circle rather than back on the rope. But Sharma was fortunate when, on 21, he edged Amir just beyond a diving Azhar Ali at slip for another four. Left-hander Dhawan scored his lone boundary of the innings so far with a slog-sweep off Wasim. Amir’s opening four overs cost just 14 runs, with Wasim having taken 0-27 in 4.5 overs when rain stopped play.
